About Bend

Bend is a the largest city in Deschutes County, Oregon and is also the county seat. The name Bend was derived from “Farewell Bend”, the designation used by early pioneers to refer to the location along the Deschutes River where the town was eventually platted, one of the few fordable points along the river. And What’s not to love about this beautiful high-desert town? With about 300 days a year of sunshine, recreational opportunities abound. Summer offers biking, river activities like kayaking and paddle boarding, or just hanging out in one of the many city parks. Just outside of town presents mountain lakes for fishing and water skiing, world-class fly-fishing in the upper Deschutes, Fall River, and Metoloius River, and even rock climbing at nearby Smith Rock State Park.
